Press Release: Supervisory Board of the Health Insurance Fund Approved the Principles for Drafting the 2013 Budget Enabling a Wage Increase for Nurses, Caregivers and Doctors

Today, the Supervisory Board of the Health Insurance Fund convened to approve the principles for drafting a budget for the next year which would enable to increase the wages of nurses and caregivers by at least 6% and of doctors by at least 3%.   According the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Health Insurance Fund Hanno Pevkur, the fact that this decision was made unanimously by the Supervisory Board is exceptional. “All members of the Supervisory Board agreed that the wages of nurses and caregivers must increase twice as much. We must also consider the fact that next year the unemployment insurance premium is going to decrease as well leaving 1.2% more money to the employees; therefore, the actual increase of salaries is more than 7% for nurses and more than 4% for doctors,” explained Pevkur.   The Health Insurance Fund will be drafting a budget for 2013 and has calculated that the annual expenditure will amount to 841 million euros: that is 55 million euros more than the expenditure planned for this year.   According to the decision, additional resources as compared to 2012 will also be allocated for a 3% increase of financial resources for general and specialized medical care and a 15% increase to guarantee the availability of nursing care.   The Supervisory Board is going to convene for the first reading of the budget for 2013 on 19 October.
