Pevkur: healthcare financing will increase faster than planned

At the meeting held today, the Supervisory Board of the Health Insurance Fund approved the planning principles for four years’ expenditure and covering sources developed according to the economic prognosis published by the Ministry of Finance in the spring. Pursuant to the decision, the coefficient imposed on the prices of health care services will be removed in the following year and the expenses of health services will be increased. A 10% yearly increase in nursing care expenses is planned for the period from 2012 to 2015.

According to Hanno Pevkur, the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Health Insurance Fund and the Minister of Social Affairs, the decision adopted today is very positive from the point of view of providing high quality health care. “Although the former decisions foresaw a smaller growth in the additional finances to be used in medicine, the recent improvements in economic indicators have given us the opportunity to increase health care financing much faster than planned. We are especially glad of the cancellation of the price cut in connection with family physicians and specialised medical care and the stable growth in financing nursing care,” Pevkur mentioned.

Hannes Danilov, the Chairman of the Health Insurance Fund, said that is was of extreme importance that the coefficient applied on the prices of health care services was cancelled. “In a sense, we were in debt to the health care system. It always feels good to pay off debts,” added Danilov.
