Give yourself the gift of security - cervical cancer can be prevented

The primary goal of the 5th International Cervical Cancer Prevention Week from 24–31 January 2011 is to improve the awareness of women, but also the awareness of the public and medical workers about the prevention of cervical cancer and the importance of its early detection.

The cancer screening programme for the year 2011 is still aimed at insured women, the target group for cervical cancer screening programme consists of 30–55-year-old women; and the target group for breast cancer screening programme consists of 50–62-year-old women.

CERVICAL CANCER CAN BE PREVENTED
In 2011, women born in 1956, 1961, 1966, 1971, 1976 and 1981 will be invited to participate in the cervical cancer screening programme.

BREAST CANCER THAT HAS BEEN DETECTED EARLY CAN BE CURED
In 2011, women born in 1950, 1953, 1954, 1955, 1957, 1959 and 1961 will be invited to participate in the breast cancer screening programme.

The Estonian Health Insurance Fund is sending notices to women throughout the year reminding them of the opportunity to participate in the screening programme; a personal invite will be sent to a woman on the address found in the Population Register. At the beginning of the year, the invite will reach older women; younger women will receive it during the second half of the year. It is not necessary to wait for an invitation to participate in a screening programme; it is possible to schedule an appointment even today. To schedule an appointment, call the most suitable health care institution, which will check the year of your birth and the validity of your insurance. Take your ID with you to the screening. If you have a valid insurance, the screening is free of charge.
Additional information, timetables of the mammography buses as well as contact information necessary for making an appointment can be found on the website http://www.haigekassa.ee/ennetus, information is also available from the insurance fund’s client information line 16363.
