The Estonian Health Insurance Fund earned Finnish quality innovation award for the development and implementation of the digital prescription system

The Estonian Health Insurance Fund has earned the quality innovation award “Quality Innovation of the Year 2011” for the development and implementation of the digital prescription system. The award was handed over to Hannes Danilov, Chairman of the Management Board at the Health Insurance Fund, and Erki Laidmäe, manager of the digital prescription project, last night in Helsinki by Tarja Halonen, President of the Republic of Finland, and Juhan Parts, Minister of Economic Affairs and Communications of Estonia. Organizations from Finland, Sweden and Estonia participated in the contest.

The Health Insurance Fund participated in the quality innovation award contest for the first time and was awarded with the title “Quality Innovation of the Year 2011” in the category of Estonian public sector organizations for the development and implementation of the digital prescription system.   The preliminary selection of award winners was made by the Estonian Association of Quality, which assessed the received projects on the basis of EFQM methodology and additional expert assessments. Two finalists were chosen from both the categories of businesses and public sector organizations and sent to the jury of the Finnish quality award Excellence Finland, for assessment and the jury selected the winners for each country.   “Our digital prescription was acknowledged because it is a world class technological innovation, which has made the system of prescribing and buying prescription medicines considerably more convenient for everyone involved in the system,” said Tiia Tammaru, Chairman of the Estonian Association of Quality.   “We are glad to admit that our digital prescription system has set an example for other countries,” said Hannes Danilov, Chairman of the Management Board at the Health Insurance Fund. “On behalf of the employees of the Health Insurance Fund, I would like to thank all our cooperation partners who have contributed to the development of the digital prescription system. The digital prescription project will not be our last project, we will certainly undertake new innovative projects in the future.”   The quality innovation award contest was organized in Finland for the fifth time. It is a joint project of the quality associations of Finland, Sweden and Estonia. Estonian organizations participated in the contest for the second consecutive year.
